What We Believe

At Wesley Memorial United Methodist, our beliefs are centered on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Word of God, and the transformative power of the Holy Spirit. We are committed to upholding biblical authority and living out our faith with conviction and love.

GOD

We believe in one God, who is infinite in love, wisdom, and power. God is revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—three persons in one eternal essence.

  • God the Father: Creator of all things, whose love for humanity is boundless and unchanging.
  • Jesus Christ: God’s Son, fully divine and fully human, who lived among us, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and offers salvation to all.
  • The Holy Spirit: God’s presence with us, empowering and sustaining us in our faith journey.

The Holy Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the primary authority for our faith and practice. It reveals God’s will, teaches us how to live, and invites us into a life of grace through Jesus Christ.

Salvation

We believe salvation is a gift of God’s grace, freely given to all. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has reconciled the world to Himself. Salvation is received through faith, and we are called to respond by growing in holiness and love.

Grace

Grace is central to our faith and understanding of God. We affirm three dimensions of grace:

  • Prevenient Grace: God’s love that goes before us, drawing us toward relationship with God even before we are aware of it.
  • Justifying Grace: God’s forgiveness and acceptance when we turn to God in faith.
  • Sanctifying Grace: God’s ongoing work in us, shaping us to become more Christlike.

Church

We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to be a community of worship, discipleship, and service. The Church exists to glorify God and to be an instrument of God’s work in the world.

Sacraments

We celebrate two sacraments, which are outward signs of God’s inward grace:

  • Baptism: A sacred act that symbolizes God’s grace, initiates us into the Church, and marks the beginning of our faith journey.
  • Holy Communion: A sacred meal where we remember Christ’s sacrifice, experience His real presence, and are nourished in our faith.

Christian Living

We believe faith is active and calls us to love God and our neighbor.

We are committed to:

  • Personal Holiness: Growing in faith through prayer, worship, and study of Scripture.
  • Social Holiness: Working for justice, peace, and the well-being of all people.

Inclusiveness

We affirm that all people are of sacred worth, created in God’s image. We are committed to inclusivity, welcoming all to participate fully in the life and mission of the Church.

The Mission

We believe the mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we seek to proclaim the Gospel, nurture faith, and serve others in love.

Our Hope

We believe in the ultimate fulfillment of God’s kingdom, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal life with God. Through Christ, we have a living hope that sustains us in every season.
